...And a Happy New Year

When Nick first came out to intern in WA two years ago, he learned that he had a great-aunt and -uncle in the area whom he'd never met before. Since we moved out here, we've been fortunate to have been accepted into their family, and just spent a lovely evening yesterday celebrating Christmas with Marion, Lavone, and their children and grandchildren.

It's really nice to be able to have a family experience even when you thought you'd left your family far behind. I know it's not Thanksgiving right now, but I'm thankful that everyone's been so welcoming to us! And also thankful for those famous homemade rolls. :)

Season's greetings

Dear friends and family:

This evening marks the end of my 2006 holiday vacation. For me, it was our first Christmas in Washington; but for Nick, it was also the first Christmas away from home and family. In our way, we've both been thinking about our friends and family and the people we've left behind (physically, at least) in Ithaca, Madison, and in other states and countries; so we decided to start our new blog as a way to share some of our day-to-day experiences and interests with people who we don't get to see on a day-to-day basis.

Nick has already exhorted me to not turn this blog into a giant LiveJournal entry, so I'll keep it short. Just wanted to let you all know that we're always thinking about you (yes, you!), especially during this holiday season.

Merry Christmas to all, and to all a good night.
